Lila Debas (b. 1991) is a New York-based visual artist. She has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions and holds a BA (Hons) in Interrelated Media Studies from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. In her paintings and mixed media work, Debas lovingly describes the ostentatious textures of an imagined space. Despite references to Color Field Painting and Op-Art, her work thwarts classification under the banner of true abstraction. With imagery that summons biological and geological reference points, her work complicates our relationship to polarities of in/out as well as macro/micro. In the arrangement of that paradox, she encourages us to regard the process of both painting and seeing, as a treasured product and a subject unto itself.
